This was after quarrelling over cigarettes with the suspect identified as Leon Sibandze, which he wanted on credit.

The CCTV footage from inside the shop has a voice over of Asian nationals.
In the clip, which is about one minute long, Sibandze who was clad in a yellow t-shirt, khaki trousers and stripe hat was seen pointing at the calm businessman as the shop assistant and a customer looked on helplessly.

As the confrontation proceeded, the businessman remained in his chair behind the counter while preparing change for another female customer.
After handing over the change to the customer who then hurriedly walks out of the shop, Sibandze is seen animated as he continued to engage the businessman.

The shop assistant who was next to the businessman also tried to drum some sense into Sibandze but was told to stop in an aggressive way while also being pointed at.
Sibandze continued to harass the businessman who tries to go about his duties but was disturbed by Sibandze who poked him in the forehead with his finger.

Sibandze continuously points at the Asian man who points back at Sibandze mid-conversation and proceeds to take a cellphone that was under the counter as they engage in a verbal exchange.

After taking a few steps back to open the knife, Sibandze charged at the businessman before stabbing him once in the neck and then taking a few steps back, dropping his hat in the process.

After being stabbed, the businessman held the wound before falling behind his counter and disappears from the shot.
As the victim of violence laid on the ground, Sibandze was seen uttering a few words while putting his knife back in his pocket before walking out of the shop, leaving behind his hat at 1:06pm.

When he left the shop, it has been reported that Sibandze boarded a kombi and members of the public raised an alarm, which saw another kombi blocking the road.

According to eyewitnesses, Sibandze was then dragged out of the kombi and heavily assaulted and was saved by the timely arrival of the police, who found him helpless in the middle of the road and bleeding profusely as he suffered multiple injuries.

Meanwhile, the businessman was rushed to Manzini Clinic by his family but was later pronounced dead.
Sibandze was taken to hospital by the police where he was treated and discharged for the injuries he sustained from the assault by members of the public.

Police Public Information and Communications Officer, Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, stated that the man arrested for the businessman’s death would be charged with murder.
Members of the public after viewing footage of the CCTV recording of the incident called for stiffer sentences to be imposed in such cases.

Others called for the death penalty as they felt that some people got away easily.
Lobamba Inkhundla Constituency headman, Abraham Bhembe, said it was time that the country revisited its decision to grant bail to everyone.

According to Bhembe this would deter would be criminals from easily committing crime as was the case in the businessman’s case.
He said not granting suspects bail would send a message to all those who commit acts of violence.

Bhembe said some people murdered their partners and would be released the following week as if nothing happened adding that it was as if government was trying to make money out of bail.

“The justice system really needs to look into such issues and address them, otherwise we are in danger as a society,” he said.
