The Phoenix Police Department (USA) published a video on Tuesday in which an officer appears beating a 13-year-old teenager who had previously assaulted her.

The release of the images by the Department was done with the aim of "providing more context" to the video of a cell phone that showed the events and that, after circulating on social networks, triggered controversy.

The incident occurred on January 31, when officers located a car reported stolen. Four men got out of the car and the officers proceeded to arrest them.

However, while this was happening, several people began to gather around and record with their cell phones. Among the spectators was a 13-year-old girl, although officers did not know her age at the time. She was repeatedly asked to stay away , but the minor disobeyed and approached two officers who had a man in custody. One of the officers grabbed her arm to stop her, but the teen reacted aggressively and punched him in the right side of her face, sending her officer's body camera flying.

Even so, the body cameras of the other agents captured the response of the officer, who hit the minor in the face and proceeded to reduce her to handcuff her.

According to the Department, the young woman was evaluated for minor injuries and was booked into the Juvenile Correctional Center on a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer.

Authorities add that the incident is currently under review and encourage anyone who may have additional information to contact authorities.
