The man, identified as one of the most feared criminals on the border, was found with gunshot wounds and signs of torture in the Villa Luz neighborhood.
The silence of a dirt road in Maicao was broken by a discovery that shocked the entire La Guajira region: Carlos Eduardo Ruiz González, 35, known as "Rambo," was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds and signs of torture.
His body was found on the dirt path known as "María C" in the Villa Luz neighborhood, an area that has been mentioned in reports of criminal activity for years. For the authorities, this was no ordinary person: there was a reward of up to 200 million Colombian pesos for information leading to his capture.
Ruiz González was considered one of the most wanted criminals on the border, accused of alleged involvement in various crimes in Maicao and of evading authorities for a long time, supposedly taking refuge in Venezuelan territory.
Investigators from the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Attorney General's Office recovered the body and transported it to the Forensic Medicine Institute for the corresponding forensic procedures.
Initial hypotheses suggest that alias "Rambo" was taken to that location and executed there. Authorities are not ruling out the possibility that the crime is related to an internal betrayal or a settling of scores between criminal groups operating in the border region.
The Police and the Attorney General's Office are continuing their investigations to establish the precise circumstances of his death and fully confirm his identity, while the community watches with concern as violence continues to claim lives in this region of the country
