CCTV footage shows the moment when the assailant, identified as Reginaldo Superbi Pinheiro, 40, got off a motorcycle and tried to kill the 39-year-old woman. While she was on the ground, the suspect was restrained by a bicycle mechanic, who used a metal bar to strike him
According to the Military Police, the victim of the attempted femicide suffered deep cuts to the head and was subsequently rescued by witnesses. Her ex-partner was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. According to the police, Reginaldo, who had had a protective order filed against him by his ex, had left prison the day before. The 31-year-old mechanic waited for the police to arrive and was taken to a police station to give a statement, initially for serious bodily injury resulting in death. He was released after being questioned.
